I met up with Jamie an old friend from University today for a wee walk in the Cairngorms. We headed out from the Linn of Dee to climb Creag Bhalg where there was a ski centre in the 1960’s that didn’t make it and the ski tows were taken to Glen Shee ski centre instead. Who knew? Anyway we made our way up the hill only to be hit with some heavy squalls of summer rain making our visit a short one. Our route then took us over to explore Clais Fhearnaig a dramatic pass carved out by meltwater at the end of the ice age. On the way the rain stopped and the sunshine came out so when we came upon a fantastic bench made of stones we enjoyed the views towards Beinn a’Bhuird for lunch before heading to the pass. As we walked through the pass we found raspberries, blae berries as well as some wonderful vistas along the pass. The weather held and we were dried out by the hot sunshine and light winds. It was then to Braemar for some tea and cake in the Bothy Cafe!
