I was out running an introduction to snowshoeing course for CNDo Scotland in the Drumochter hills today in some challenging winter conditions. We headed up towards Geal Charn exploring the techniques for walking in snowshoes as well as looking at route choice when using them. It was a great session and we decided to go […]
I’d been planning a trip with Chris, Paul and Martin in the Cairngorms for a winter adventure that started as a possible snow hole trip before changing to a wild camping trip due to the thawing snow and finally became a winter skills weekend as the stormy conditions came blowing in! We had a great […]
I had a short day out in the Cairngorms today with a distinctly icy theme! Headed into Coire an t-Sneachda before climbing up not the plateau and traversing Cairngorm coming back down via windy ridge. It was busy on the slopes and in the corries. The snow certainly has frozen though with a lot of […]
I was running a weekend winter skills course in the Cairngorms for Steven Fallon Mountain Guides this weekend in some great snow conditions with a day of bright skies and a day of more wintry skies! You can see a write-up over on Steven’s Blog here!
We just popped out for a wee snowshoe up Glen Banchor to enjoy the glorious deep snow everywhere at the moment. It was a stunning day and we wandered away from the main routes to watch some lovely mountain hares exploding out from the fresh snow!
It was a lovely and busy day out in the Cairngorms today running a one day winter skills introduction for Steven Fallon Mountain Guides. We stayed in the northern corries and enjoyed some great up close views of Hares and Ptarmigan whilst we looked at footwork, ice axe arrests and crampons skills.
I was working for Steven Fallon Mountain Guides today down near Ben Lawers on an introduction to winter day. It was a beautiful day and lots of deep fresh snow down to low levels making trail breaking a priority. We managed to get a few ice axe arrests in whilst covering the basics of footwork […]
I was out guiding for Steven Fallon Mountain Guides today taking a couple up their first mountain and we enjoyed a classic winter day on Cairngorm and even had the summit all to ourselves!
On my second day with Duncan we took our chances and headed up Sgurr a’Mhaim from Glen Nevis. It turned out to be a great choice as we climbed steadily up the steep slopes that were almost entirely free of snow as well as being fairly sheltered. As we neared the summit it cleared and […]
I was walking with Duncan today on a very wild wet and windy day having been hoping to try a higher summit we changed our plan and set off up the wind farm access track towards Meall Dubh from Glen Morriston. The idea was that we would be relatively sheltered from the south-westerly gales until […]
