We set of with ambitions of climbing Braeriach today and it was wet and windy almost from the start though some weather forecasts had mentioned brighter spells in northern Cairngorms… They were wrong. Our route through the Chalamain Gap went well and despite the wind and rain there were a few other walkers out and […]
It was a fairly wild day out with Valerie and her son Alasdair today as we drove over to Glenfinnan to traverse the Corryhully Horseshoe and it’s two Munros Sgurr Thuilm and Sgurr nan Coireachan. The rain was heavy as we drove over, but soon eased and on the walk in almost dried up. The […]
I was out with Chris for a wild camp in the Cairngorms enjoying the amazing weather and spring snowpack on the plateau. Our route took us up Fiacaill a’Choire Chais and then over the plateau to climb Ben Macdui before camping near Loch Etchachan. We were guided to our camp by Loch Etchachan by beautiful […]
The second day out with Ally & Linda was out along the wild Loch Arkaig towards Glen Dessary. It was a simply wonderful day with hot sunshine and melting snow drifts in a patchy springtime cover. We saw plenty of cars at the end of the road though nobody was heading the same way as […]
It was a beautiful day out with Ally and Linda today exploring the Innses to the east of the Grey Corries. There wasn’t too much snow and the views of the surrounding mountains were fantastic as is the walking on these rocky hills. We didn’t need the ice axe and crampons either despite carrying them […]
We enjoyed a fabulous walk up Meall a’Bhuiridh and Creise today with very few folk out on the hills with us breaking trail over to Creise. The day was definitely a day of two halves as we were on icy rocks with limited snow on our first summit and the west ridge of Meall a’Bhuiridh […]
It was a pleasant day out traversing these two wild summits along the Kinloch Hourn road though the views were quite limited. The snow was soft and mostly thawed on the ridge making the going fairly easy and we even had some sunshine for lunch at the beallach.
Our second day based in Glencoe Youth Hostel saw us get an early start to head out into the Mamores from Glen Nevis to climb Stob Ban and Mullach nan Coirean. It was a perfect day and we met a few others out enjoying one of the best winter days this year!
It was a wild day out in Glen Etive, but the perfect choice in the westerly gales as we were sheltered for much of our climb up Beinn Fhionnlaidh. It’s a lovely winter hill and has its own wee challenges on the dramatic summit ridge. The views from the top weren’t the best, but the […]
After planning to go along the Kinloch Hourn road to have a walk up Gleouraich we reached a point on the road where we felt that wasn’t a good option as the snow was covering the road and we were only halfway along to the start so a quick think and we set off towards Glencoe […]
