The weather forecast indicated some interesting wind speeds due to a temperature inversion well above the mountain summits. It delivered with some light breezes followed by the odd strong gust, but apart from that it was a perfect day up An Gearanach after walking through the Nevis Gorge. I was out with Duncan and I’ll […]
I was back down the Kinloch Hourn road with Valerie today hoping to climb Sgurr a’Mhaoraich. The forecast was to be windy and possibly better the closer to Isle of Skye you went so just maybe we would be in the right place? As we were driving along the clouds were indeed scudding over the […]
I was out with father and daughter Barry and Rita today with aspirations of traversing the Carn Mor Dearg Arete in winter conditions on our way up Ben Nevis. It was a stunning morning with blue skies and alpine lookig summits. This would mean for some thawing snow, but if we were lucky we might […]
We headed out from Newtonmore in the early hours to make for Gairich and hopefully find some sunshine along the way. It was a glorious morning as we crossed the dam and enjoyed the reflections of Gairich in the waters of Loch Quoich. The summit was clearing intermittently so there was definitely a chance we […]
I had a great catch up with my mate Tim this morning as we headed out first thing to climb Fiacaill ridge in the Cairngorms. It was in good condition with lots of fresh snow and drifting evident, but as forecast the morning was not as good as the afternoon. We did however get it all […]
The weather forecast looked mixed for the western highlands so Valerie and I had a quick change of plan and took a chance heading north to climb Ben Hope. After a warm night at the Tongue Hostel, which we shared with 3 climbers who were heading for Ben Hope looking at new routes we were feeling […]
I was out with Rob today hoping to head for Ben Macdui and return over Cairngorm if the weather and conditions would allow. We set off in some fresh snow from the Cairngorm ski centre and made our way out past Coire an Lochain to climb up onto the plateau. It was soon obvious we […]
I had a fantastic catch up with my friend Simon as we went out for a winter visit to Faindouran Bothy going from Glenmore via some deep snow. It was a fun adventure with a quiet bothy, whisky and banter not to mention a lot of trail breaking and a good deal of sunshine!
I had a short day out in the Cairngorms today with a distinctly icy theme! Headed into Coire an t-Sneachda before climbing up not the plateau and traversing Cairngorm coming back down via windy ridge. It was busy on the slopes and in the corries. The snow certainly has frozen though with a lot of […]
We just popped out for a wee snowshoe up Glen Banchor to enjoy the glorious deep snow everywhere at the moment. It was a stunning day and we wandered away from the main routes to watch some lovely mountain hares exploding out from the fresh snow!
