Glen Lyon Bike & Hike

Glen Lyon Bike and Hike

The usual approach to this tryptych of Munros is to come walk in from the Bridge of Orchy. However, by approaching from Glen Lyon we can bike and hike our way along the road less travelled. And the reward for this is a beautiful and peaceful wild walk.

This is a Bike & Hike event so you will need to bring a mountain bike and a helmet with you.

The Glen Lyon Bike & Hike route

We start by cycling on a good vehicle track past the Loch Lyon dam (8km each way). As we ride along the north side of Loch Lyon we get some good views of Beinn Sheasgairnich to the south. We will soon reach Glen Meurain where we will leave our bikes.

Tigh nam Bodach

Now our route takes us past Tigh nam Bodach a basic shelter that houses a family of stones involved in an ancient pagan tradition. Beyond the end of this track we head steeply up towards the summit of Beinn a’Chreachain. Once up here we join the main route on these Munros and enjoy a broad ridge walk with views over Rannoch moor.

The ridge drops to the Bealach an Aoghlain before climbing steeply up onto Beinn Achaladair. A short walk brings us to the south top, but so that we can continue our circuit we leave the main ridge and descend to Lon na Cailliche. From here it’s an easy walk to the top of Beinn Mhanach. With views over Loch Lyon we go down the northeast ridge, which brings us back to the bikes for the ride back to the dam.
